BC Pregnancy Outreach Programs
POPs were created to reach out to women who do not access typical prenatal information and services. There are now over 46 programs in BC.
They are located in community centers, health centers and friendship centers. more information
FIR Square Combined Care Unit
Located at BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre,
FIR is the first program in Canada to care for substance-using women and substance-exposed newborns in a single unit.
The unit has five antepartum and six postpartum beds for women wishing to stabilize or withdraw from drug use during pregnancy. more information
Maxxine Wright Community Health Centre
Located in Surrey, BC, Maxxine Wright supports women who are pregnant or have very young children (under age two at intake) and who are impacted by problem substance use or violence/abuse. more information
Sheway
Located in Vancouver, BC, Sheway provides comprehensive health and social services to women who are either pregnant or parenting children less than 18 months old and who are experiencing current or previous issues with substance use. more information
16 step groups
Developed by Charlotte Kasl, the 16-step empowerment model is a holistic approach to overcoming addiction that views people in their wholeness-- mind, body and spirit. There are a number of 16 step groups in locations across BC.
